As one of the most popular dinosaurs of all time, it is surprising that Tyco waited until the 2nd Series to release the Stegosaurus. The Stegosaurus was heavily armored and played a starring role in the episode, “Revenge of the Rulons,” a.k.a. “The Adventure Continues.” The Stegosaurus had motorized walking action, a feature which would later be removed when it was re-released as part of the Smithsonian Institution line. The Stegosaurus had a red and black color scheme that looked very similar to the paint scheme on the pre-production Torosaurus.

The earlier production runs of the Stegosaurus included the first series of weapons/accessories.

The later production runs of the Stegosaurus included the second series of weapons/accessories.

Dinosaur Variant 1: When the Stegosaurus was re-released as part of the Smithsonian Institution line, its motorized walking action feature was removed, the battery compartment that was located on its belly was covered up and the foot pads that facilitated the walking feature were removed. The Smithsonian version is considerably lighter than the standard version due to the removal of the motor.

Dinosaur Variant 2: There are two color scheme variations of the Smithsonian Institution Stegosaurus. The most common color scheme is identical to the standard Dino-Riders version (without the motor and with the battery compartment covered up as mentioned above). The second, much rarer version, used the same basic colors as the standard Dino-Riders version, except that its plates were painted in solid bright red instead of the standard red and gray combination.
