Dino-Riders were also available in Japan. Unlike the typical box art that appeared
everywhere else, the Japanese boxes showed the actual toys instead of an illustration.
These pieces are highly sought after by collectors because of their unique look.
For the most part, the toys are identical to the U.S. versions. There are a few exceptions.
For example, the various human figures that came packaged with the Dino-Riders toys
had painted black eyes instead of the standard blue. In addition, certain of the
figures had black hair instead of the standard brown or blond. Each toy also came
with a “manga” style miniature comic, which was completely different than the standard
comics that were packaged with the U.S. and other foreign country boxes. They also
had their own unique set of instructions. Only the first series of dinosaur toys
were released in Japan and no figure packs were released either. The boxes were also
unique in that the Dino-Riders and the Rulons were given their own symbols, similar
to the symbols used to represent the Autobots and the Decepticons in Transformers.
