On the back of the miniature comics that came packaged with the dinosaur sets, there
was an application form for the Dino-Riders Fan Club. Getting in required a check
or money order for $3.50 and three Dino-Riders points, which were basically proofs
of purchase from the toys. The value of the points varied depending on the size of
the toy. For example, the figure two-packs and small dinosaurs were worth one point
and the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brontosaurus were worth 6 points. There are at least
two different known versions of the Fan Club. The traditional version (the one advertised
on the comics) contained an iron-on patch, a membership card, a newsletter, both
mini comics, and 16 Dino-Riders trading cards. The other version was advertised on
a box of Kellogg's cereal and this set contained everything that the traditional
package offered except that it included a re-painted Pterodactyl instead of the trading
cards. This Pterodactyl was colored brown and orange and it made a cool looking collector’s
piece. As for the newsletters, there were only two issues – Vol. 1 No. 1 and Vol.
1 No. 2. Vol. 1. No. 1 is extremely rare and Vol. 1 No. 2 is by far the more common
of the two and it came on both white paper and light blue paper.
