TOYS - Dinosaurs - Triceratops

As one of the most popular dinosaurs of all time, the Triceratops made a great piece for the Dino-Riders line. The set included a satellite and two large laser canons on each side of the dinosaur. Because the Triceratops often appeared in the Dino-Riders cartoon, it was important for Tyco to do a good job with the toy and they did indeed. The Triceratops also had motorized walking action and its head swayed from side to side as it walked. The motorized walking action would later be removed when it was re-released as part of the Smithsonian Institution line.

Dinosaur Variant: When the Triceratops was re-released as part of the Smithsonian Institution line, its motorized walking action feature was removed, the battery compartment that was located on its belly was covered up and the foot pads that facilitated the walking feature were removed. The Smithsonian Institution version is considerably lighter than the standard version due to the removal of the motor. There is also a very slight variation in the color scheme with the Smithsonian version having a more washed out look.
